Surfing Lessons

Our surfing lessons are delivered by qualified coaches and community volunteers experienced in working with disabled people and proficient in adapting to the needs of the group or the individual.

Session descriptions are a general  guide and can be tailored as far as possible to the needs of the participant or group. Let us know if you have any concerns and we will be happy to design a lesson specifically to suit your requirements.

Learn to surf group lessons:

A two hour session allowing participants to learn to surf in groups up to a maximum of 8 people.  Your safety is paramount to us and so the first part of any session covers the basics of staying safe and secure both on the beach and in the water. Before entering the water, we ensure our students are familiarised with and have confidence in the equipment they will be using. We introduce our students gently to the process of surfing, starting with ‘catching’ waves in the lying down position then progressing towards the more traditional standing position.  Here at Surfability, we understand people develop skills and confidence at different rates, which is why a member of our team is always on hand to ensure each member of the group progresses at a pace that is safe, comfortable and above all fun. For those either not able or lacking the confidence to surf alone, we have the option of using specialist tandem surfboards, allowing those students to experience riding waves alongside a qualified member of our team. Whilst we do our best to accommodate everyone, please let us know in advance if you require access to a beach a wheelchair to ensure there is one on hand. Costs= Adult £30 Child £20

1-2-1 beach lesson:

A two hour, one on one learn to surf session with a qualified coach. We appreciate some of our students require a more bespoke approach or simply don’t feel comfortable surfing as part of a group, in which case our 1-2-1 sessions are the perfect way to begin your surfing adventure. If you’re confident enough you can surf solo with full supervision on one of our safe and soft foam surfboards. For those who need a little extra help, there is the option of surfing on a tandem board with a qualified member of our surfability team. We are as flexible as possible when it comes to your needs and diligent to ensure your safety at all times, so we are happy to provide additional Surfability team members at no extra cost to ensure there is always plenty of support on hand. Please let us know in advance if you require access to a beach wheelchair. Costs= £50

1-2-1 Indoor Lesson:

If the British weather becomes too inhospitable or if the beach just isn’t your thing, then a lesson at Swansea’s only indoor surfing facility may be for you. We run one hour sessions on the Boardrider standing wave at the well-known LC2 leisure centre. We firstly demonstrate how to use the Boardrider safely and ensure you are fully warmed up before letting you loose with our close supervision.  You will learn to ride the wave in whichever way best suits your ability; either lying-down, kneeling, standing up or as in most cases, progressing from one position to the next as your skill level improves. If you require more support, we are happy to provide additional Surfability team members at no extra cost to ensure you gain as much as possible from each session. Costs= £60

Indoor Group Lesson:

Same as above, costs vary depending on number of participants.
2 participants = £25 per person.     3 participants = £20 per person.    4 participants = £15 per person.   5 participants = £10 per person
